Operated by AENA, the Spanish state owned company, the Almeria airport sees Thomas Cook Airlines, Iberia, First Choice Airways, Monarch Airlines, and Spanair among others. The IATA and ICAO codes are LEI and LEAM respectively. This airport is about 10km to the East of the city centre and getting to this airport isn’t a hassle at all. There is N340 highway or you could try the Autopista A-7 that needs signed access. You could even try the city bus; there is one every half hour.
In Andalucía, this is the second most important airport for foreign travelers. The terminal building has 3 floors and the runways are parallel to the coastline; there are 2 active runways. The apron can handle up to 11 planes. There is a cargo terminal as well. 2007 saw a little more than a million passengers and some 20,000 flights.
There are scheduled flights and also charter flights. Amsterdam, Stuttgart, Helsinki, Madrid, and Bonn are some of the more popular destinations.
