Cork Airport serves the Republic of Ireland and is situated in Farmers Cross, 8 km to the south of Cork city. This public airport is operated by Dublin Airport Authority. This airport was used by 3.2 million passengers in 2007; 40 Irish, British, and European destinations are handled. Even though the airport officially opened in 1961 it saw many changes over the years. A new terminal building became operational in 2006. Ireland’s National Train Company has trains to the Cork station and this is only about 8 km from the airport.
When you’re driving down from north, east, or west of this airport, you have to hit the south end of N27 to get to the airport. Alternatively, if you’re heading from Kinsale take R600. The journey time from the bus station to the airport is less than 30 minutes. The IATA and ICAO codes are ORK and EICK respectively. Scheduled airlines include Ryanair, Wizz Air, Aer Lingus, and Aer Arann while the charter flights could be from Air Europa, Onus Air, Spanair, and Czech Airlines among others.
