Geneva Cointrin International Airport is located 5 km from the city centre. The northern limit is along the Swiss-French border and hence can be accessed by both the countries. GVA and LSGG are the IATA and ICAO codes respectively. By road, the travel time from the city centre is 15 minutes if you take the Avenue Louis Casai. The railway station in the city provides access from many other Swiss cities; get off at the Geneva-Cornavin and this is just 5 minutes from the airport. More than 10 million passengers were served in 2007, up by 9.5% over 2006.
The single runway is the largest in the country. Serving as the major hub for easyJet and Flybaboo, the airport is also used by Swiss International Air Lines. The other important airlines include Air France, Austrian Airlines, Middle East Airlines, and Royal Jordanian. In 1998, a Swissair Flight 111 from JFK International Airport crashed killing all the passengers and crew onboard.
