The Hamburg International Airport or the Hamburg-Fuhlsbuttel Airport is about 8 km, northwest of the city. HAM and EDDH are the IATA and the ICAO codes. Operated by FHG Flughafen Hamburg GmbH, the airport was opened in 1911 and is the oldest German airport that’s still in operation. In 2007 it handled 12 million passengers and 173,000 aircrafts.
The airport has 2 terminals and some of the airways include Turkish Airlines, Air France, KLM, Emirates, and Scandinavian Airlines System. From central Hamburg you could get to the airport by the ring roads R2 or R3 on B433. A7 Autobahn could also be used; exit at Schnelsen-Nord. In December 2008 the S-Bahn rail link would be opened to the public. There are buses run by the Hamburg public transit company, periodically to and from many parts of the city. This airport is about 5.7 square km and has seen a tenfold increase since it was first constructed.
