The Kefalonia Airport was built in late 1970s and is located on the island of Kefalonia. This single terminal airport is operated by the Greek government and was opened in 1971. It’s about 9 km from the island capital, Argostoli. The IATA and ICAO codes are EFL and LGKF. It can handle about 400,000 passengers annually. You can access the island by ferries from Patras, Killini, and Ionian islands such as Ithaca and Corfu. From Athens, you can take the bus to Patras or Killini and then take a boat from either of those places; the total journey time could be 6-7 hours.
There aren’t many public buses to get to the airport. Since the airport provides short term and long term car parking, you could drive down. Initially there were only propeller planes but the airport is now served by Aegean Airlines and Olympic Airlines. There are daily flights to Athens and the travel time is about 45 minutes. The charter flights include Finnair, Monarch Airlines, Thomas Cook Airlines, and Thomson Airways.
