Having its IATA and FAA codes as LAX, and its ICAO code as KLAX, the Los Angeles International Airport is the main airport of Los Angeles, California. It is located at Westchester, 26km southwest of Los Angeles.

Having handled more than 61 million passengers in 2007, it ranks fifth in the world in passenger traffic and 11th in cargo traffic. It serves as a hub airport for Alaska Airlines and American Airlines. Southwest Airlines and American Airlines use the airport as their focus city. It is also a United States Coasts Guard (USCG) base.

It has 9 terminals including the Tom Bradley International Terminal, and touches 69 international and 87 domestic destinations. Its main airlines are Southwest Airlines, American Airlines and United Airlines.

There is no shortage of taxis as nine official taxi companies controlled by Authorized Taxicab Supervision Inc. (ATS) are available at the central terminal. Other road transportation includes shuttles, vans and buses. Three out of the four planes in the September 11 attack were originally bound for Los Angeles.
