John F. Kennedy International Airport (IATA & FAA: JFK, ICAO: KJFK) is located in Queens County, 24km southeast of Manhattan. It is one of the main international passenger gateways to the U. S., and leads in freight shipments value-wise. It handles more than 47 million passengers annually. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has undertaken the operations and management of this airport and the other two major airports in New York, LaGuardia Airport and Newark Liberty Airport.
JetBlue Airways has made the airport its base. Out of the 90 airlines operating in the airport, JFK serves as a hub for American Airlines and Delta Air Lines. There are eight terminals that are operational and interconnected by the AirTrain system, and four advanced runways with ILS. The AirTrain connects the airport to the local rail system and New York’s subway and the journey to Midtown Manhattan takes around 40 minutes.
Road transportation also includes buses, shuttles and limousines. Helicopter service is also available up to Manhattan. New York City’s official yellow cabs take you to Manhattan at a fixed rate for 1 to 4 passengers that works out to $45 excluding toll and tips.
