Located 48 km northeast of Oslo, the Oslo Airport Gardermoen serves the Norwegian capital. The airport is the hub of Norwegian Air Shuttle and Scandinavian Airlines. The airport is operated by Oslo Lufthavne AS. Even though the army used this airport as a camp in the early 1740s, the first flight was in 1912. This airport took over as the principal airport serving Oslo in 1998. Some of the major airlines are Air Norway, British Airways, Air France, and US Airways.
The airport can be accessed from the route E6; the Oslo Airport Express Coach could be taken from Oslo, Ski, and Fredrikstad. The Airport Express Train departs from the Central Station every 10 minutes. The IATA and ICAO codes are OSL and ENGM. In 1998, super cooled rain and fog caused severe glaze at this airport; about 20 aircraft engines were damaged. There were about 19 million passengers in 2007, a growth of 7.8% over 2006.
