Charles de Gaulle International Airport, Paris, is the main international airport of France, with its IATA code as CDG and its ICAO code as LFPG. It ranks first in Europe in cargo traffic after Frankfurt, and second in Europe in passenger traffic after London Heathrow. It is also known as Roissy Airport since a quarter of the Airport lies within this commune. Located about 23 km northeast of Paris, it is one of the three airports in Paris.
The other three are: Orly Airport, which is the second international airport; Beauvais-Tillé Airport, which is the airport for low-cost flights and the Le Bourget Airport, which is the original city airport.
The airport has three terminals, out of which Terminal 1 is for non-Air France flights. Terminal 2 is for Air France and other airlines such as Air Canada and Cathay Pacific. Terminal 3 is for charter flights. In 2004, the ceiling of Terminal 2E came crashing down due to a number of design faults, killing four people and injuring others. The design was abandoned and the terminal was rebuilt by March 30, 2008. The RER and the TGV rail networks connect Terminal 2 to central Paris.
