Prague Ruzyne Airport (IATA: PRG , ICAO: LKPR) is a modern international airport, and lies 17km northwest of the city of Prague, the capital of Czech Republic. The airport, that began operations in 1937, handles 250 flights daily that are run by about 50 airlines, and reaches more than 115 destinations. The annual passenger traffic is estimated at 12 million.
It is managed by the Prague Airport Administration s.p. and was honored as the best Central and Eastern European airport by Skytrax in 2005 and 2007. It has three terminals and two operational runways, with a third planned by 2010. The airlines operating on the airport include bmibaby, Aer Lingus, Air France, Air Malta, Lufthansa, Swiss Air and easyJet. There are also six cargo carriers.
Transportation to the city centre is available by bus, taxi and airport shuttle. You can take a fixed-rated FIX taxi or a metered AAA taxi outside Terminal 1. AAA Taxi turns out to be cheaper. A taxi ride takes 30 minutes to the city, whereas public transportation reaches in around an hour’s time.
