Southampton International Airport (IATA: SOU, ICAO: EGHI) is located at Eastleigh, 7km northeast of Southampton. It is both owned and operated by BAA since 1990.

The airport started its operations in 1910 and has one terminal which was opened in 1994. The runway is equipped with ILS that enables accurate landing in rough weather. The airport sees about 1.9 million passengers annually who are carried by about 15 airlines to over 40 European destinations.  Some of the airlines operating here are Air France, Eastern Airways, Flybe, Thomson Airways and Blue Islands.

The Southampton International Airport was the European winner of the Airports Council International (ACI) Airport People Award of 2008 for excelling in customer service. The City Champion Award for Innovation 2008 was also awarded to it by Business Southampton. The Supermarine Spitfire, a British single-seater fighter aircraft took its first flight from this airport in 1936.

The 24-hour taxi service, Checker Cars, can be found just opposite the Arrivals hall at the main concourse. Bus no. 101 takes you to Southampton University and the city centre.
