Located at Okecie, 10 km southwest of Warsaw, the Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport, which has its IATA code as WAW and ICAO code as EPWA, is commonly known as Okecie International Airport. In the year 2001, it was named after the Polish composer and pianist, Frédéric Chopin.
The airport has 3 terminals and handles about half of Poland’s passenger traffic, flying them to domestic places such as Krakow, Gdansk and Wroclaw, and international destinations such as London, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Milan.
It handled about 8 million passengers 2006 and about 9.2 million passengers in 2007. Some of the airlines operating at the airport are British Airways, Ryanair, Lufthansa, JetAir, KLM, Finnair, Alitalia, Air France and easyJet.
Bus no. 175, 188 and N32 take you to the center of Warsaw city within half an hour’s time. A train terminal situated under Terminal 2 connects to the Warsaw railway station. A taxi stand is seen in front of the Arrivals hall at Terminal 2. You can also book in advance with Merc Taxi, Radio Taxi and Sawa Taxi. Car rental companies such as Avis and Hertz are located outside Terminal 1.
